UPDATES TO OUR 2007 ALLEGRO BUS BEFORE LEAVING RED BAY, AL

September 10, 2014

In the last few months before we left Red Bay we had some upgrades down to our 2007 Allegro Bus and some maintenance items done. Below is a list with photos. I am so excited. We love our Bus and what it needs we can have done. I would not at this point buy a new one. I can always upgrade.

1.    First was Art’s desk. He has wanted a new desk configured to what works for him as far as height and storage. It also had to be easy to remove in case any work needed to be done inside the motor home. The driver side window (other than the windshield) is the easiest access point for bringing in large items that will not go in or out the door.
2.    Second were the installation of the LED under the counter lights and the removal of the fluorescent tube light. We also installed one additional light on the other end of the counter
3.   Installing a pullout shelf under the kitchen counter, so I did not have to crawl under to find whatever had disappeared into the black hole. This work was done by:

     Chris Berry
     1871 Pritchard Road
      Russellville, AL 35653
     256-810-4707

Extremely popular. Books up quickly, does not answer his phone on weekends or evenings. You needed to book well in advance of arriving in Red Bay. Best to text him. He does all types of woodworking and custom design. Has his own shop about 12 miles outside of Red Bay.

DESK PHOTO BEFORE.
This is the original desk that came with the coach. It just was not at a proper height that worked for Art. he could not get his knees under the desk. His back was not in a good position and storage was a problem.

DESK DURING CONSTRUCTION
Art worked with Chris Berry to design a desk that was in 3 pieces. A printer stand and storage drawer. It also had a drawer for storage of small desk items. A bookcase and then the actual desk with full extension file drawers. All three pieces have removable tops.

DESK: FINAL FINISH
Wood is done in the same Natural Cherry as our coach. We elected not to go with stone tops for two reason. Cost and weight. Also, removing tops without cracking has not been successful in many cases. The drawers have 10# catches on them and the file drawers also have locks on them to prevent them from coming open during transit.

PULL OUT SLIDE TRAY ADDED UNDER SINK WITH 10# LOCK ON BACK

LED LIGHTS ADDED TO BOTH ENDS OF CABINETS

4.  Next was Tile Floor in Bed Room. We finally had the old carpet removed in the bedroom and extended the tile floor into the bedroom. We had wanted to do this and decided this was the time. Never know when the old tile and diamonds would not be available. The previous owner had left us some tile but not enough and we also need the diamonds. This work was done by:

            Brannon Hutcheson
            Custom RV
            4370 CR 72
RED BAY, AL. 35582
(256) 668-0973

His shop is actually in Vina, Al but his mailing address has a Red Bay address. Vina is about 8 miles from the service center. He also has hookups for several rigs. I haven't been able to locate my pictures at this time.

Hanging Around Tucson Getting Repairs on "Da Bus"

Well that last couple of days have been mainly information gathering and getting bids and phone calls for work on "Da Bus".

LaMesa RV was the first stop. We left our Bus for an evaluation. We spent the day doing laundry and looking for other places. We went back at the end of the day to get the word on our Bus.

First and biggest, were the windows. Our service advisor, indicated that Tiffin would only warrant the windows and not the labor. Hm mm - when we talked to Bob Tiffin at Quartzsite, we thought that would include labor. OUCH, with 10 windows being replaced that was a large chunk of change we didn't count on. WELLLL, a call to Bob Tiffin, took care of all that. He agreed to warrant the labor also. He said he would take care of it. Before I could look up the number for La Mesa RV and give our tech heads up, he was on the phone to La Mesa.

Now that is why Tiffin Motor Homes is still in business. Where can you call the owner of the company, talk to him directly and get action before say WOW. Thank You BOB TIFFIN. That is why I bought a Tiffin.
CUSTOMER SERVICE IS ###1 ALWAYS. Yes, I am shouting - shouting with joy.

Second: Is a problem with our transmission leaking oil. That's a Spartan problem. Our bus is out warranty in November 2009. Dang, how were we to know. If Art had not got under the coach, he would not have seen the oil leak. However, they have agreed to cover parts but not labor. Better than nothing.

Still waiting on word of our body damage from the insurance company.

Gen Start: Well, all our adjusting, figging with the gen start, comes to find out we don't have a gen start. So much for that problem.

So it looks like we will be in Tucson for awhile.

Check out the photo of Simon our dog below. I guess he didn't think there was enough good articles on pets in the latest issue of "Roughing It Smoothly", the magazine published by Tiffin Motor Homes

NEW TIRE and ALL CLEAN

Well Good Sam ERS gave us a great recommendation for tire service in Albuquerque,NM. TDS Tires Service located at 3501 4th Street NW, Phone 505-344-1687. (I-40 at exit 159D) They had our tire, gave us great directions for driving the MH to their location (about 3 miles off the highway exit) and had us in and out in no time. Great bunch of guys. Just glad we caught it before a major blowout. WORD OF CAUTION. CHECK THOSE TIRES EVERY TIME YOU STOP. Our tires where only 2 years old with about 25,000 miles.

So looking at the coach and toad, we decided a wash was in order also. We went a few exits down the road to Corning Truck Wash, 9920 Avalon Rd NW, 1-40 at exit 153. So "DA Bus" went in looking dull and grimy and came out looking like a GRAND LADY should. The toad looked great also. They did a power spray and hand and towel dry. We can even see out the front window.

Now lets hit the road .

So we are headed to Q. AGAIN !

Welcome To Our Blog. A Record of Our Journey

A personal account of our life as RV'ers. Workamping, our way around the country. Seeing and doing exactly what we want, when we want and how we want. We travel in a "new to us" 2007 Allegro Bus 42' Motor Home made by Tiffin Motor Homes located in Red Bay, AL. Traveling along with us is our very spoiled beagle. Simon, who also does what he wants, when he wants and above all how he wants.

Disclaimer: I write for fun. I write to have a log of our adventures, friends and things we see and do. If there are some grammar blunders or spelling hurdles along the way, so be it, get over it and enjoy life. Don't sweat the small stuff.
